Burlington Sessions #2: A New Language of Lighting

Signify Design and Lighting Academy hosted the 2nd edition of the Burlington Sessions, a CoCreate aimed at bringing together lighting artists & designers that inspire us, push the limits, and create a new language of lighting. This is a small group, by invitation only, of internationally recognized disruptors leading the way into the future of lighting.

These sessions are very hands-on, Signify shared some of the solutions we are developing in a very early stage, our guests were able to experiment and explore, and share their ideas on what/how would these concepts work for them and their customers.

Light Up A Shopping Cart

Attend this webinar to learn how the future of retail lighting can create an ambiance and provide entertainment.

Perhaps in the future, heading to the store may be like going to the movies instead of watching at home. You go for the experience. In that sense, retail lighting will no longer be display orientated, but more to create an ambiance, and provide entertainment. And as lighting designers, when designing lighting for retail, maybe not only we need to think of 'cinemas' but also 'private theaters' at consumer's home.

Facets of Night: A Time-based Place

International Nighttime Design Initiative (NTD) is developing unique methodologies to intersect the everyday and aspirational, while harnessing the social experience of neighbors, workers, and owners, bringing stakeholders together.  As “shades of night” focus on temporal rhythms from sunset to dawn, the “facets” signify lenses with which to study darkened urban public-space through local materials, built environment and inhabitation. We are inventing a system that that considers culture, climate, and geography to transform city nights one neighborhood at a time.

Join Leni Schwendiger's visual discourse regarding her team, the process of research, to innovate an overarching framework for global application of light with urban design. The objective is to improve after-dark experiences – inspiring, safer, healthier and economically vital.

Is Lighting Design Timeless?

Technological disruption changed the way we think about lighting and lighting design, but did we forget what we’ve learned in last 100 years. When will product design and production begin with the word 'quality' and not 'price'? Whose fault is it?
Attend this webinar presented by Dean Skira (founder of Skira, an award-winning firm located in Pula, Croatia) which forces us to think hard on such topics.

This talk is actually not about answers, it’s about questions which new generations should ask themselves at the beginning of their careers and maybe one day be the leaders of profession and not followers.
