Privacy and your choices
How the tools handle your text, browser-saved plans and information you choose to send for AI analysis.
Creative work deserves a clear boundary between drafting privately and sending something for analysis. Clue Competition, edited by Jess, uses the arrangements below. Questions about the website’s use of data go to [email protected].
Draft locally; send a brief only by choice
The word-limit checker, practice prompt generator and entry planner execute on your device. Their text is not submitted to Clue or to an AI provider merely because you type it. The counter does not automatically retain a draft.
The planner’s “Save in this browser” control makes one local copy of the fields and checklist. It lasts 90 days from the latest save. “Clear plan” removes it, as does clearing this domain’s storage in the browser. Saving again starts the period afresh. Your exported documents remain separate files, and anyone with access to the same device profile may be able to open local work.
What leaves the browser during a brief check
After you confirm the form and choose “Check the brief”, the pasted rules travel to our WordPress server, through OpenRouter, and to the provider serving Google Gemini 2.5 Flash Lite. The returned checklist is the purpose of that requested processing. Use publicly available rules: do not send a manuscript, confidential brief or personal information that the task does not need.
Clue’s plugin keeps aggregate usage counts and service-status information, not a database history of the submitted rules or generated responses. OpenRouter routing requests providers that declare no prompt collection. That is not a promise that every supplier keeps no operational data. OpenRouter’s notice and its explanation of provider logging describe those separate policies. Processing can occur overseas; contact us for further details of applicable transfer arrangements.
A small count to guide improvements
Clue uses Koko Analytics without cookies to see which pages and tools are useful. Page counts, referring websites and approximate daily visitor totals stay on our server for up to two years; we do not send these reports to Koko or Google Analytics or use them for cross-site advertising profiles. The analytics records exclude raw IP addresses and raw browser identifiers. Separate hosting logs are described below.
To leave your visits out, use the button. Clue also honours Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Your button choice belongs to this browser and this site, so clearing browser storage or using another browser can reset it.
Records needed to run Clue
Requests to our host and security services contain technical details such as the network address, requested page, browser and time. Administrator authentication uses WordPress cookies. These records support delivery, fault diagnosis and abuse prevention, independently of the tools’ treatment of your draft text.
Messages to our contact address are processed by the email service and used to answer or investigate the matter raised. We retain correspondence for that work and any necessary follow-up or legal record. Operational logs and backups last according to their security and recovery purpose and the supplier’s arrangements.
Our legitimate interests cover running useful tools, protecting them, understanding aggregate use and answering enquiries. Optional sending and saving happen at your request; where consent is required for a use, you can decline or withdraw it. A legal requirement can also require us to keep a specific record. Service suppliers receive only the information necessary for their functions.
Control and questions
Contact Clue to request a copy, correction or erasure of personal data held by us. Restriction and portability rights may also apply. Processing justified by legitimate interests can be challenged through the right to object. We may need to identify the relevant message to deal with a request. If you remain unhappy, you can raise the matter with the ICO.
Manual planning remains available without AI analysis. Locally saved work must be removed on your device because we cannot access it remotely. Leaving through an organiser or reference link does not send your plan to that website; the destination has its own data practices.
